Inventory
When plant material enters the genebank it is divided for storage under different conditions and in various locations. GGCE primarily deals with the management and tracking of these individual lots.
As described in the accession data section, when material is introduced into the genebank, an accession record is created to capture the passport data. The physical plant material is registered as a new item in genebankβs inventory, and the quantity and location of each item is individually tracked.
Inventory items in GGCE represent the germplasm in the collection, e.g. a packet of seed, a plant in the field, a set of subcultured in vitro germplasm, etc. Most operations in a genebank apply to the physical plant material (germplasm) and are therefore associated with the corresponding inventory item.
