GGCE 2026.2
2026.2 focuses on mobility, precision, and workflow efficiency. This release introduces the Offline Fieldbook for scoring crop traits and managing data without an internet connection. It also includes updated Geographic Region management with a new API and UI, and a System Action Log for administrative transparency.

Fieldwork often takes researchers far away from reliable internet connectivity. To address this, we have introduced the Offline Fieldbook, which allows you to capture trait observations directly in the field — anytime, anywhere. This ensures that data is recorded accurately and promptly, eliminating the need to wait until returning to a base with internet access.
The Offline Fieldbook enables seamless data collection in areas with limited connectivity:
- Mobile-friendly fieldbook: Download specific research methods while online and use tablets or laptops to record traits via direct entry or quick barcode scanning.
- Data persistence and smart sync: Observations are stored locally and synchronize with the central server once connectivity is restored, securely integrating your fieldwork data.
- Advanced conflict resolution: A side-by-side comparison tool helps maintain data consistency and accurately resolve discrepancies when synchronizing data contributed by multiple team members.
- Fieldbook management: Browse fieldbooks and manage methods, deletions, or resets directly while offline.

Workflow and user experience
General improvements to daily operations:
- In vitro batch multiplication: New tools for managing the batch multiplication of in vitro samples simplify the propagation process. See In vitro batch multiplication for more details.
- Saved filters: Users can now save filter combinations for consistent views across devices and sessions. See Introducing Saved Filters.
- Storage location barcode scanning: Barcode scanning for storage locations reduces entry errors and simplifies inventory management. See Location in storage.
- Improved autocomplete: Storage location parts now feature improved autocomplete and display for easier manual assignment.
- Seed viability filtering: New status filters in the viability module enable faster data retrieval.
- Distribution suggestions: The Distribution module now suggests contact points based on past requests.
- Inventory sorting: Inventory lists now support sorting by preferred name.
- Acquisition dry-run: Users can now preview material acquisition with a dry-run, ensuring the accuracy of acquired material before confirming the process.
- Attachment sharing: Attachments from order requests can now be shared with the resulting inventories, maintaining a clear chain of documentation.
- Cooperator profiles: Enhanced cooperator management with support for alternative organization names and improved mandatory field validation.
- Expanded Audit Logs: Audit logs for accessions and inventories now include all related entities, providing a more comprehensive history of changes.
Precision and control
Features to increase data entry precision and administrative transparency:
- Bluetooth electronic balances: GGCE now supports Bluetooth electronic balances (including Kern KCP models) via the Web Bluetooth API. This reduces transcription errors by capturing weight measurements directly from the scale. Learn more about Using electronic balances.
- ISODATE trait type: Support for the
ISODATEtrait type allows for date-based observations. - Method attachments: Documentation and files can now be attached directly to methods.
- System action log: A new System Action Log records administrative actions for authorized users.
- Site-based permissions: Site-based permission checks for crop trait observations improve security and data integrity.
- Geography: New UI tabs for Regions and Region Mapping simplify mapping geography records to regions. Automated triggers for sub-geography removal and assignment reduce manual maintenance.
