GGCE 2025.3

· 3 min read

2025.3 provides rapid Inventory registration for genebanks just starting with GGCE. We added a new tool to add trait observations to individual inventories, the possibility to assign DOIs to physical inventories, and upgraded the In vitro section.

It removes support for API v1, enhances the integration with GLIS DOI registry with progenitor DOIs and the assignment of DOIs to individual inventories, improves integration with Genesys for uploading images, and introduces a new mechanism that determines the backup sites of accessions based on actual inventory data, and also includes the enhancements developed in the palmira branch.

Rapid inventory registration

If you're just starting with GGCE, the main questions is where to begin. Should you validate all your passport data and do a physical inventory of your genebank, record it in Excel and then move the cleaned data to GGCE? The short answer is: No!

Key new feature: Inventory > Storage navigator > Inventory registration allows you and your team to immediately begin using GGCE and all the tools it offers, without being delayed by existing documentation that is yet to be added to GGCE. It allows you to do a physical inventory of your collection directly in GGCE, barcode each packet, and record its quantity and location. Any missing accession numbers are easily added.

This approach allows the documentation team to proceed in parallel and at their own pace with moving passport data to GGCE.

Adding trait observations

The Traits tab of each accession and inventory now allows for quick registration of trait observations. Click the + button, pick the method, crop, select the trait, and add the data!

In vitro updates

We've added the Storage navigator and Assign storage location to the In vitro module and updated the multiplication form with pathogen status, availability reason and note fields.

Sites of safety duplicates

The locations where an accession is backed up are until now recorded as Backup location 1 and Backup location 2 for each accession. This information is used in MCPD to populate the location of the backups.

Genebanks must keep track of the details of their backups, and with GGCE the backups should be registered as individual inventories at the backup Site using a special inventory maintenance policy marking them as backups.

You can configure GGCE to use these backup inventories to determine and populate the location of the backups by configuring ACCESSION_BACKUP_SITES.accessionBackupSites = inventory in Admin > Application settings.

Other improvements

  • Inventories needing multiplication and historical inventories with 0 quantity are highlighted in tables
  • In distribution we indicate automatically deducted inventories and highlight request items based on status
  • It's now possible to quickly schedule follow-up actions directly in the Scheduler
  • The crop is listed in trait tables
  • Improved date formatting and access to inventory names in ZPL label templates
  • Fixed an issue where users were unable to access system inventories
  • Enabled filtering order requests by their attachments
  • Split and canceled items are exluded from SMTA generation
  • On accession update also update the Site of its system inventory
